One of the biggest challenges in high-volume commercial design is achieving the elegance of luxury materials while ensuring durability and cost-effectiveness. When a world-renowned restaurant made its WesternHemisphere debut at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the interior design had to be nothing short of spectacular.
To help fulfill this vision, the designers looked to create a bar front with backlit onyx. While an incredible stone, onyx can be expensive and tricky to work with. surfaceLAB offered a more affordable and durable solution which involved printing natural onyx stone patterns onto a semi-transparent solid surface. After adding a warm-toned studio film, we applied the tough labGLASS finish that will withstand years of wear and tear.
